By an Overwhelming Majority, Nearly 100 CNAs at Niagara Lutheran Vote to Join 1199SEIU
On Thursday, June 28, 93 Certified Nursing Assistants at Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center in Buffalo, NY voted to join 1199SEIU following a three-month campaign. The CNAs are in the process of electing a bargaining committee so that they can begin their contract negotiations with management in order to win a better future for themselves, their families and their residents.

On June 24, 1199SEIU members at the Glendale Nursing Home in Schenectady, New York, took part in a ceremony to formally break ground on a new Glendale home. Caregivers, residents and their families joined members of the Schenectady County Legislature and other union and community leaders to symbolically place the first shovels in the ground and celebrate.
On May 11, 130 Certified Nursing Assistants at Waterview and Salem Hills Rehabilitation Centers in Purdys, NY voted overwhelmingly to join 1199SEIU. These homes are owned by Epic Healthcare Management, and with this victory, 1199 represents all four of this employer’s nursing homes in New York State. The CNAs are joining with their union colleagues at Skyview in Croton-on-Hudson and Middletown Park in Middletown.
